More Than Half of Young Millennials Move Back in With Parents NAHB Analysis Reveals Significant Pent-up Housing Demand from Key Demographic

via NAHB: WASHINGTON, Feb. 10--A recent study of "Boomerang Millennials" who move out of their parents' home only to move back in may have important implications for this key demographic and what it means for the housing market.

The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) examined recent research conducted by Judith Dey and Charles Pierret using data from the National Longitudinal Study of Youth 1997. The examination found higher incidence of "re-launch" for Millennials with a Bachelor's degree compared to those with a lower education attainment and higher incidence of "re-launch" for Millennials from higher parental income household compared to lower parental income households. A "re-launch" occurs when a young adult moves out, returns to the parental household, and then leaves again.

New Home Sales Rise 11.6 Percent in December

via NAHB: WASHINGTON, Jan. 27 - Sales of newly built, single-family homes rose 11.6 percent in December to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 481,000 units, according to newly released data by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the U.S. Census Bureau.

"This uptick is in line with what our builders are telling us in surveys and on the ground -- that they are seeing increased traffic and more serious buyers in the market for single-family homes," said Tom Woods, chairman of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and a home builder from Blue Springs, Mo.

A More Robust Year for Housing in 2015

via NAHB:LAS VEGAS, Jan. 20 - A strengthening labor market, low interest rates, improving mortgage availability and growing pent-up demand will help to significantly boost single-family housing production in the year ahead and move the housing recovery to higher ground, according to economists speaking at the International Builders' Show in Las Vegas today.

With economic growth near 4 percent for the last half of 2014 and employment gains averaging more than 250,000 per month last year, NAHB Chief Economist David Crowe said these are the primary factors that have helped consumer confidence jump back to pre-recession levels.

Housing Starts End Year on High Note

via NAHB: LAS VEGAS, Jan. 21 - Led by solid gains in single-family housing production, nationwide housing starts rose 4.4 percent to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.089 million units in December, according to newly released data from the U.S. Commerce Department. For the year, overall housing starts topped 1 million units.

"Today's figures continue to be in line with our recent surveys, as builders have been becoming increasingly optimistic," said Kevin Kelly, chairman of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and a home builder and developer from Wilmington, Del.

Builder Confidence Rises Four Points in November

via NAHB: WASHINGTON, Nov. 18 - Builder confidence in the market for newly built single-family homes rose four points to a level of 58 on the National Association of Home Builders/Wells Fargo Housing Market Index (HMI), released today.

"Growing confidence among consumers is what's fueling this optimism among builders," said NAHB Chairman Kevin Kelly, a home builder and developer from Wilmington, Del. "Members in many areas of the country continue to see increasing buyer traffic and signed contracts."

Single-Family Production Poised to Take Off in 2015

NAHB - WASHINGTON, Oct. 31 -- A growing economy, rising household formations, low mortgage rates and pent-up demand will help single-family housing production to rev up in 2015 while a growth in renters will keep the multifamily market at cruising altitude or higher, according to economists who participated in yesterday's National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) 2014 Fall Construction Forecast Webinar.

"Single-family builders are feeling good. They are not overly confident, but confident enough to keep moving forward," said NAHB Chief Economist David Crowe.

New-Home Sales Top 500,000 in August, Highest Level Since 2008

via NAHB: WASHINGTON, Sept. 24 - Sales of newly built, single-family homes increased 18 percent in August to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 504,000 units in August, the highest level in six years, according to newly released data by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the U.S. Census Bureau.

"This jump in sales activity is in line with our latest surveys, which indicate builders are seeing increased traffic and more serious buyers in the market for single-family homes," said Kevin Kelly, chairman of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and a home builder and developer from Wilmington, Del.

Builder Confidence Hits Highest Level Since November of 2005

WASHINGTON, Sept. 17 - Builder confidence in the market for newly built, single-family homes rose for a fourth consecutive month in September to a level of 59 on the National Association of Home Builders/Wells Fargo Housing Market Index (HMI), released today. This latest four-point gain brings the index to its highest reading since November of 2005.

"Since early summer, builders in many markets across the nation have been reporting that buyer interest and traffic have picked up, which is a positive sign that the housing market is moving in the right direction," said NAHB Chairman Kevin Kelly, a home builder and developer from Wilmington, Del.

Builder Confidence Rises Two Points in August

via NAHB: WASHINGTON, Aug. 18 - Builder confidence in the market for newly built, single-family homes rose two points to 55 on the National Association of Home Builders/Wells Fargo Housing Market Index (HMI) for August, released today. This third consecutive monthly gain brings the index to its highest level since January.

"As the employment picture brightens, builders are seeing a noticeable increase in the number of serious buyers entering the market," said NAHB Chairman Kevin Kelly, a home builder and developer from Wilmington, Del. "However, builders still face a number of challenges, including tight credit conditions for borrowers and shortages of finished lots and labor."

New-Home Sales Up 18.6 Percent in May

This is the highest rate since May 2008.
